My artwork expresses my desire to take everyday subject matter and portray them in a dramatic way. I strive to bring my paintings to life with strong lighting, values, and composition. Color does play a part, but only where and when I choose. I am primarily a shape maker and take careful thought in the planning and placing of both positive and negative shapes so that they enhance the composition.
I enjoy working in a variety of mediums but transparent watercolor will always be my first love. As the world changes, so will my paintings and the subjects I paint. My only limitations are those self-imposed.
My bubble series evolved from my grandson’s love of bubbles. They ended up being quite the challenge to not only draw, but paint. The people in the background became abstract to a certain degree as to distract from the primary figure. I hope the painting expresses the joy of the moment with a wonderful sensation of light and color moving through it.
