Years ago, my husband and I had bee hives, and I would often help him take honey out of the hives. This painting is a memory of me as his helper.
My art reflects my love of pattern and color. I experiment with watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, and collage. I have always loved drawing the human figure - especially women, and that image often appears in my paintings. I usually use exaggeration to keep my designs playful, which allows me to push my boundaries as an artist.
I grew up in Roanoke City and became a public school high school art teacher in Roanoke County for 30 years. I attended Longwood College (University), where I received a BS in Secondary Art Education. During my years of teaching art, I continued to take art classes and improve my art skills.
I am presently a member of Market Gallery in Roanoke, VA, and my work has been purchased by many private patrons as well as businesses. I am the Roanoke area representative for VWS.
